Lead guide Phil Marino called in this morning with a report that the upper mountain on the Emmons route has been majorly affected by the weather over the past few days. There is a good surface freeze layer but underneath is an isothermal snowpack. This means the temperature is the same throughout the snow pack, and the snow loses cohesion and becomes unsupportive. The route is currently very exposed, and with the current snow pack conditions the team decided to turn around at the top of the Corridor for the safety of the team. Everyone is doing well and is safely back at Camp Shurman after a challenging early morning summit attempt.
