10-day course checks in from the Cascades
Lead guide Pat Timson called to check in from the May 26th 10-day course. The group is on a bit further east in the Cascades and is benefiting from somewhat drier conditions than we're getting on Mt. Rainier this week. The team is all doing really well, having fun, and learning a lot. They will be spending another 2 days in the field before returning to Seattle for the night. They will have the chance to change out gear as needed, sleep in a bed! and then will head to Rainier for a summit attempt on the Kautz route.
May 25-30 6-day Course checks In
Lead Guide Matt Nightengale called to check in from Mt. Baker this morning. The group has experienced all four seasons in the past four days! After a couple days of wet weather, yesterday there was a break and the group moved up to Sandy Camp in clearer conditions.
Everyone is doing well and practicing skills they hope to put into practice on a summit attempt tomorrow or early Friday morning. The guides are watching the weather to see when the best window for summiting will be in the next couple days. Lastly, apparently George is bummed the Rangers are going to Game 6, but hopefully being in the mountains will take his mind off their loss last night!

Liberty Ridge group checks in
Matt Hegeman just called with an update from our Liberty Ridge crew on Mt. Rainier. The road to White River trailhead has not officially opened to the public, but the Mt. Rainier NPS was gracious enough to make sure our group was able to drive to the trail head, saving about 7 miles of road walking each way. Whew!
The whole crew is doing well and has made it to Thumb Rock at about 10,700', where they will camp for the night. Now we're watching the forecast and the guides will decide in the next 24 hours when to go for the summit.

Early starts...
It is always a little controlled chaos getting ready to leave for the summit. Here is a hint from your guide to an aspiring summiteer: keep your stuff organized and you will be the one standing enjoying the stars while others search for that missing pair of gloves. Can't wait to climb with you.

Photos from New Guide Training
Our new guides spent ten days learning the ropes and getting dialed in on the Mt. Rainier scene in early May. The weather cooperated at least some of the time! Here are some photos from their training:

May 11-16th Cascades 6-day Course checks in
Lead Guide Pat Timson called to check in from the first 6-day course of the season. The group has had beautiful weather and has been enjoying their time learning glacier skills on Mt. Baker. On Wednesday they headed up the mountain and the whole group successfully summited via the Easton Glacier route. Snow conditions were somewhat challenging given the warm temps, but with snowshoes they were able to make good progress and summit under clear skies. The team heads down today and back to Seattle after a fun week. Congratulations to all!
Early summit
Due to an impending weather system, we will be attempting the summit today. Let's hope the weather holds!
